Michael Erkens analyzes the determinants and consequences of information disclosure. He presents an empirical investigation of corporate risk management disclosures of nearly 400 firms from 20 European countries. The results show that countries’ institutional settings and cultural values are predominant factors why firms disclose information on their risk management practices. In another study, the author analyzes the economic consequences associated with the publication of an annual report in English by European firms from non-English speaking countries. He finds that the release of English annual reports attracts more analysts and foreign investors to the firm, and decreases information asymmetries between insiders and outsiders of the firm. Contents Importance of Language for Financial Statements Users Enforcement and the Demand for Accounting Information Disclosure Incentives, Cultural Values, and Institutions < Target Groups Researchers and students in the fields of business economics, accounting, and finance Accountants The Author Dr. Michael H. R. Erkens received his Ph.D. from the University of Trier in 2012. He was a visiting research scholar at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and at HEC Paris, where he also was a Professor. He is now with the ERASMUS School of Economics at ERASMUS University Rotterdam (The Netherlands). .

About the Book: The basic function of a commercial bank is risk management. Banks have to adopt a risk management approach to maximize shareholder value/net value and to conform to the RBI guidelines (1999). Further the adoption of ALM and diversification of activities to earn fee income has resulted in the assumption of risks which had to be hedged by derivatives. Since major banks are foreign exchange dealers, exchange risk and interest risk have to be covered. Finally derivatives themselves carry a lot of risk which has become a major concern of regulators. This study describes in detail the development of Coleridge's attitude to nature as it is reflected in his poetry. It analyses the different stages of Coleridge's search for a meaningful relation to nature from an uncritical adoption of the eighteenth century conventions in his early poetry to a projectionist view in his poems of 1802. It offers challenging new readings of some of Coleridge's major poems like 'The Ancient Mariner' and 'Dejection: an Ode', and tries to rehabilitate some minor ones, like 'The Picture'. Attention is also paid to his relation with Wordsworth. It discusses in detai

While much work has been done on goddesses of the ancient world and the male gods of pre-Christian Scandinavia, the northern goddesses have been largely neglected. Roles of the Northern Goddess presents a highly readable study of the worship of these goddesses by men and women. With its use of evidence from early literature, popular tradition, legend and archaeology, this book investigates the role of the early hunting goddess and the local goddesses who were involved in all aspects of the household and the farm. What emerges is that the goddess was both benevolent and destructive, a powerful figure closely concerned with birth and death and with destiny of individuals.
